Privacy Policy

1. Scope and Who We Are

This Privacy Policy applies to 24-7 MediaDesk, including its website, accounts, search tools, saved news features, daily news briefings, news alerts, custom RSS feeds, support services, and related communications (collectively, the "Service").

24-7 MediaDesk is a service of 24-7 Press Release and is operated by Dragstrip Designs Marketing Inc. ("MediaDesk," "we," "our," or "us"). Our head office is in North Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

This policy applies to personal information that we control. It does not apply to information contained in publicly distributed press releases or news materials when that information is handled solely as editorial or public-source content, although other laws and rights may still apply.

2. Privacy Laws and Principles

We intend to handle personal information in accordance with applicable Canadian privacy laws, including British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act and, where applicable, Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. Where laws outside Canada apply to a particular user or activity, we will address those obligations as required.

Our privacy practices are based on accountability, identifying purposes, meaningful consent, limiting collection, limiting use and disclosure, appropriate retention, accuracy, safeguards, openness, individual access, and the ability to challenge compliance.

3.3 Information from Other Sources

We may receive limited information from authentication providers, analytics providers, service vendors, business partners, or publicly available sources. We use this information only for legitimate operational, security, support, and service-improvement purposes.

4. How We Use Personal Information

  • Create, authenticate, administer, and secure user accounts.
  • Provide searches, topic filters, saved news, custom RSS feeds, daily briefings, and news alerts.
  • Personalize the Service based on selected topics and preferences.

  • Carry out other purposes that are explained when information is collected or that are permitted by law.

5. Consent and Communications

We seek consent where required. Consent may be express or implied depending on the circumstances, the sensitivity of the information, and applicable law. You may withdraw consent to optional uses, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice.

5.1 News Alerts and Daily Briefings

News alerts and daily briefings are sent because you requested or enabled them. You may change topics, pause delivery, or turn alerts off through your MediaDesk account. Where a message is considered a commercial electronic message, we intend to comply with applicable consent, identification, and unsubscribe requirements.

5.2 Service Communications

We may send necessary administrative messages about account security, material service changes, legal notices, outages, or support matters. These messages are not promotional and may continue while your account remains active.

6. Cookies and Similar Technologies

MediaDesk may use session cookies, persistent cookies, local storage, pixels, and similar technologies. These technologies may be used to:

  • keep you signed in and maintain secure sessions;
  • remember settings and topic selections;
  • measure traffic, usage, and feature performance;
  • identify errors and protect against abuse; and
  • understand whether requested communications are delivered or used.

Most browsers allow you to control cookies. Blocking essential cookies may prevent account login or other parts of the Service from functioning properly.

7. When We Disclose Information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information in the following circumstances:

  • Service providers: to vendors that provide hosting, cloud storage, analytics, email delivery, security, customer support, authentication, database, and related services under appropriate contractual restrictions.
  • Business operations: to professional advisers, auditors, insurers, and financial institutions where reasonably necessary.
  • Legal and safety reasons: where required or permitted by law, court order, legal process, regulatory request, or to protect rights, safety, security, users, or the public.
  • Corporate transactions: in connection with a proposed or completed merger, financing, reorganization, sale, transfer, or acquisition, subject to appropriate protections.
  • With your direction or consent: when you ask us to disclose information or clearly authorize the disclosure.

8. International Processing and Storage

MediaDesk is operated from Canada. Some service providers may process or store information in Canada, the United States, or other jurisdictions. Information stored outside your province or country may be subject to the laws and lawful-access rules of that jurisdiction. We use contractual and organizational measures intended to protect personal information when it is handled by service providers.

9. Retention and Deletion

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy, including providing the Service, maintaining security and records, resolving disputes, enforcing agreements, and meeting legal obligations.

  • Active account information is generally retained while the account remains open.
  • Saved-news records, topic preferences, and RSS settings may be retained until changed, removed, or the account is deleted.
  • Support records and security logs may be retained for reasonable operational, audit, fraud-prevention, and legal periods.
  • Backups may retain information for a limited period after deletion before being overwritten or securely removed.

We may retain de-identified or aggregated information that no longer reasonably identifies an individual.

10. Security Safeguards

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the nature and sensitivity of the information. Measures may include access controls, authentication, encryption in transit, monitoring, backups, vendor controls, staff procedures, and incident response practices.

No internet service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your password, using a secure device, and notifying us promptly through the Support Page if you suspect unauthorized account access.

11. Privacy Incidents

If we become aware of a privacy or security incident involving personal information, we will investigate and take reasonable steps to contain and address it. We will provide notices to affected individuals and regulators when required by applicable law.

12. Your Privacy Rights and Choices

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to:

To submit a privacy request, use the Support Page. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. We will respond within the period required by applicable law or, where no period applies, within a reasonable time.

13. Additional Information for Users Outside Canada

13.1 European Economic Area, United Kingdom, and Switzerland

Where applicable data-protection law applies, our processing may rely on performance of a contract, consent, compliance with legal obligations, or legitimate interests such as operating, securing, and improving the Service. Users may have rights of access, correction, erasure, restriction, objection, and data portability, subject to legal limits. International transfers may rely on recognized safeguards where required.

13.2 United States Privacy Rights

Certain U.S. state privacy laws may provide eligible residents with rights regarding access, correction, deletion, portability, and certain disclosures. MediaDesk does not sell personal information for money. If applicable law treats some analytics or advertising disclosures as "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising, we will provide required choices and disclosures. Requests may be submitted through the Support Page.

14. Children's Privacy

MediaDesk is designed for journalists, editors, publishers, researchers, communications professionals, and other adult users. The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us through the Support Page.

15. Third-Party Websites and Services

The Service may contain links to press-release websites, publisher sites, social networks, RSS readers, and other third-party services. Their privacy practices are governed by their own policies. We are not responsible for third-party content, security, or privacy practices.

16. Automated Tools and Editorial Technology

MediaDesk may use automated technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine-assisted tools, to organize, classify, summarize, moderate, detect duplicates, improve search, or support editorial workflows. These tools may process press-release content and limited service-usage information. We do not use automated decision-making to make decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about MediaDesk users.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes to the Service, our practices, or applicable law. We will post the revised version with a new effective date. Where changes are material, we may provide additional notice through the Service or your account. Continued use after the effective date means the revised policy applies to future use, subject to applicable consent requirements.

18. Contact and Privacy Requests

Questions, privacy requests, complaints, and account-deletion requests may be submitted through the MediaDesk Support Page. Please select the most relevant support category and include enough information for us to understand and respond to your request.
